Lysterfield Lions

Sailing is a very inclusive sport and can be seen in operation at Lysterfield Park Lake with club racing most Saturdays. The Lysterfield Sailing Club (1978) has been running a Sailability Program at Lysterfield Park Lake since 2006 for people of all abilities. A group of dedicated volunteers has been rigging their fleet of specially designed Hansa Class Dinghies and taking people for a sailing experience.

People from many of the local special schools, people who spend most of their time in a wheelchair can now sit in a sailing boat next to an able-bodied co-sailor and sense the freedom given by the wind and water.

This Sailability Program is normally self-funded but recently the Lysterfield Lions Club, together with a Grant from the Australian Lions Foundation offered to purchase two extra sailing boats to add to their fleet.  Partnerships with other community groups is a very important part of the Lions organisation and the Lysterfield Lions Club is very pleased that they could join with Sailability Australia, Lysterfield to add value to the ongoing good of their community.
